Output and Substitution Elasticities in Pakistan’s Industrial Sectors: Panel Data Analysis

چکیده

This study performed a panel data analysis of Pakistan’s nine major sub-industries in the years 1980–2019. The primary objective was to conduct disaggregate substitution elasticity inputs different industries, including textile, mining and currying, manufacturing, fuel extraction, electricity, gas, water supply, using translog production function. used function estimate output elasticities for each sub-industry. Based on results elasticities, concluded that there were negative oil, labor, except capital, which had positive elasticity, causing increasing returns scale industries. greater than one value positive, showing costly energy can should be replaced with cheaper these For instance, electricity is Pakistan.

Elasticities of Substitution and Complementarity

This paper is a modern synthesis of the more than seventy years of literature on the elasticity of substitution. At times, authors, such as Mundlak, have provided syntheses of the literature but these often seem to be forgotten by later authors and particularly by applied economists. I synthesize several of these approaches with the full development of duality theory. There are many different l...

Chapter 4 Elasticities of Substitution

This draft chapter, prepared for inclusion in the (prospective) Handbook of Production Economics, Vol. 1 (Theory), edited by Subash Ray, Robert Chambers, and Subal Kumbhakar, lays out the theoretical foundation of the measurement of the degree of substitutability among inputs utilized in a production process. It proceeds from the well-settled (Hicksian) notion of this measure for two inputs (ty...

The Elasticities of Complementarity and Substitution

This paper argues that the conventional definition of the elasticity of complementarity is not well suited to deal with the case of increasing returns. It proposes a slightly different formula, that uses a distance function formulation instead of a production function. The proposed definition coincides with the Hicksian measure in case the production function displays constant returns. It is mo...

Financial Development and Economic Growth: Panel Data and Trilateral Analysis

A large body of literatures links financial development to economic growth, yet the channels through which inflation and economic development affect this relationship have been less thoroughly explored. This research takes econometric and trilateral graphic approaches to examine these channels using 99 developing and developed countries during the years 1960-2009. Findings prove that respecti...
